Written on March 25, 1841 37] However, you have heard that the rags of the prodigal son were dispersed by the winds like chaff, and the remaining rags were taken off him and burned. Do you know what these rags mean? 38] Understand, it is nothing other than the former withered cosmic human being on our tablet. For through the salvation of each individual person is the Noble167, out of Me emanating [excellent spirit] or My prodigal son restored. The rags or the actual prime-evil will be scattered into the fire, from which it actually came out of. However, it is this fire—the one in the Divinity—out of which all things have their material existence. 39] Consequently, whoever depends on the world and sticks onto matter, sticks on the rags of the prodigal son; however, all matter shows you already its big similarity to the fire168; the same are also the rags on the loins of the prodigal son. 40] This is how it will happen! So that God becomes a free God again, in which no more matter seethes, so must the fire or the related wraths once again return from where it—as that what it is—came from. And it will happen, as if you have some kind of hardening on your body and you cover it with a hot poultice, so this hardening becomes soft again. So too will My eternal fire seize this prime-evil hardening in its all-ness or entirety, in order to thereby again assimilate its own being. 41] There is another question present in you: Whether those beings, which are understood as rags, also will have a continual self-consciousness or not? I, however, say to you: The question answers itself almost automatically, because you cannot possibly assume that there should perhaps be any unconscious point in the Deity. 42] This question therefore solves itself; except for one more question: Whether this self-consciousness is a suffering one or not? See: that is a different question. However, to understand this correctly, you must first recognize that every effort, in order to find itself, must comprehend a certain necessary suffering in itself. Only now, it depends only on whether this suffering is painful or pleasant. 43] If this suffering consists in the fact that the being seizes continuously in itself and by this seizing is striving to form or shape itself forever into a unity, then such a suffering is extremely pleasant and the feeling from the clearest self-assurance an extremely blissful one. 44] If, however, the suffering, or the self-assured feeling of a being, is tearing and destructive in itself, then it is also an extremely painful one; this you can simply learn from nature as well, if you have ever observed any kind of an inflammatory illness, which consists of nothing other than that certain parts in the body begin to expand more and more. The more violent such an act carries on, the more painful it becomes. The result from this is that the self-confident essential condition of the fire-related prime-evil must also be extremely painful and cause immense suffering. 45] You will now perhaps think that as a result the Deity must thereby continually suffer extremely painfully in its portion of wrath. In fact it is not so! But it is simply as if food is boiled down in your stomach; driven through the fire of the stomach, here the little husks crack open from the nourishment one has eaten. However, do ask yourself whether this horrific destruction-process has ever hurt you in your natural state in the fire of your stomach? - 46] However, since I have led you already so far, I want to give you on this occasion a never before outspoken hint! If you want to see the final cause of such a situation of all worldly material prime-malice, then look into your stomachs and observe what happens there with the food that you eat; observe the how and why? Consequently, you will all see a great segment of My ways, as to what will happen. However, the time is not recorded in your stomachs, and it is enough for you all that I have shown you the purpose. – (12 Hours)

[11] See, also every animal has a soul whose being is also a spiritual-substantial entity and thus must be of an indestructible nature, otherwise it could not give to the animal limbs any movement! But go and explain it to an animal what is its soul and how it lives through only its soul! Would an animal understand what you have told it? Surely just as little as if you had explained it to a rock! But why does the animal does not understand it, and why does it not have the words, to share its feelings with another creature?
[12] See, the soul of an animal is necessarily still too deeply buried in its flesh and feels, except for the need of its body, nearly nothing! If someone wants to train an animal for a very simple task, he must give it a lot of effort to awaken the animal soul out of its flesh to such an extent, that it can understand what the person wants from it. [13] Do you however believe that there are exist people, whose souls do not stand too far above the animal souls, yes sometimes seemingly even been surpassed? Now, to bring such souls through words to an inner life consciousness already here on earth, would be a totally futile exercise! For these people a blind and dumb believe is sufficient here on earth, so that their souls after the death of the body can continue to live and in the beyond and either have to await a reward or penalty, so that thereby they submit to some lawful order, like the ox in his yoke. Everything else must be kept for another state of life. Look, your natural scientists and scholars have proved to you from the formations of the earth’s crust that the smaller the animals, the greater their productive strength. Since this is truly the case and a great part of the earth’s crust and mountains consist of the shells and skeletons of such animals, you can deduce from this that when I created such arrangements I had other aims in mind than only to spread life.
You see, from its first beginnings up to the last cataclysm, the earth was so richly blessed with these animals that some of them, which have long since died out, would by far surpass those presently living in size. And so you find, apart from the many producers, also the consumers, which after every new cataclysm had to serve as matter for a new layer of the earth’s crust. There life in general was considered, without regard for individuals, but everything had to share in speedily arranging the earth as a permanent abode for the last created - man. Then these changes on a great scale ceased, the now occasionally happening phenomena and natural events being only a faint echo of those great creational processes. In that time, when your earth, having progressed from the vaporous form to a solid mass, continued its developmental process throughout millions of years, it was not the only globe that had to undergo all these transformations. For all the planets of your solar system found themselves in the same developmental process. Everywhere there was activity. The ether supplied the elements for the atmosphere, and the precipitation of the latter formed the first beginnings of the earth’s crust. Also you have your years of adolescence, where everything in you is in fermentation, where the blood pulses through the body faster and the developmental process presses forward to the age of youth and, later, to the age of man. Your earth, indeed the whole planetary system, is going through such a phase. EVOLUTION OF SOUL-LIFE ON EARTH UNTIL MAN. LOWER AND HIGHER ANIMAL LIFE
[7] I said to the innkeeper: “My dear Mucius, exactly in those 3 questions that you ask are contained the whole wisdom of all the Heavens and the reasons of My work as teacher on this Earth. No matter how many times I talked about this, the basic teaching cannot be frequently repeated enough so that the spiritual heart of man will completely absorb those eternal truths in himself, will well digest them in himself and in flesh and blood will entirely transform them. Therefore, I will profoundly answer your questions, firstly for the sake of you and Phoikas since you are still foreign to My teaching, and secondly for the sake of My followers who are already with Me for a long time but who still did not penetrate into all truth. So listen carefully. [8] Man lives from 2 kinds of worlds which he has to unite in himself. On the one hand he is the cornerstone of the outer, material creation in which he is called the crown of creation and he is praised as such. On the other hand he is the starting point of the pure spiritual world which with him has reached the first stage of complete free self-awareness. So, on the one hand he is the beginning and on the other hand the end of a chain, and he has to find in himself, by his for that purpose given life and the free development, the right link with which he can make those 2 chains as one. I will explain this further to you. [9] All beings, from the smallest creature, form step to step ascending series, in such manner that one step will always complete the other, will show greater perfections and can by that also develop an ever greater intelligence. [10] Look at the animals where lower sorts exist that seem to have no other goal than to maintain their body and serve as food for other animals. When there is an enemy of their body and life, they stoically surrender to their fate and do not fight back and are also not capable to do that. Look at the many insects and lower amphibians. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. 20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected [the same] in hope, 21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. 23 And not only [they,] but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, [to wit,] the redemption of our body. (Rom 8)
The development of matter [1] (The Lord:) “When in the first beginning I placed the spirits as My matured ideas, outside Myself and filled them with My power to such an extent, that they themselves started to think and to will, they also had to be shown an order, according to which they had to think, to will and finally to act. But with this shown and given order, an impulse had to be placed in those first beings to ignore the given order; otherwise they would never be able to make any use of their will. Only the impulse placed in them, produced a true life emotion in them, according to which they began to decide, to chose, firmly to will and to act. [2] It is, if you know this, quite easy to understand, that already in the first created spirits a certain weed had to begin to show, because the impulse lifted many of the first created spirits out of the order and finally by the continuously mightier growing opposition they had to harden, and in this way laid the foundation of the material creation of the worlds. [3] The first main central suns were created, and out of them finally all the countless other suns and world bodies and with them everything else what you can discover and find on, above and in them. [4] Everything what is and called matter, was originally spiritual, which voluntary has stepped out of the good order of God, founded itself in the wrong impulses and hardened therein, which then formed matter. Matter is therefore nothing else then out of itself hardened spirit under judgment; or stated more clearly, it is the most coarse and most heavy skin or shell of the spirit. "All life is constituted such as to be able to grow and increase constantly, because there is unceasing inflow from Me." (God's Household I 185, 20)
"Everything arises from and consists in God, everything is in Him, everything is the endless abundance of His thoughts and ideas, from the smallest to the greatest." (GGJ VI 226, 8) "All matter takes form and decomposes again. This is no other impulse than that of the spirit awakened from being bound and asleep in matter. There could be no progression from stage to stage, no progress towards perfection, if at the very heart of matter there were not the spirit, aroused by external circumstance." (Lord’ Sermons 314) "Everything that has been created is designed to pass through a long sequence of all kinds of forms and finally into free and independent life." "Every form represents a certain level of intelligence ... and in this way intelligence increases until man is reached." "The forms are for a limited period the collectors and bearers of a life that is all the time becoming more consolidated and intelligent." (GGJ VI 53, 5-9) "Thus you have here the four stages of spiritual life; in matter as something bound without self-awareness, in the soul as something active in self-awareness, in the spirit as something freely left to its own resources, and in Me as God, Creator and Lord of the entire creation as working and ruling alone, amongst other things representing also this highest level, as the most noble and sublime, and not as an unrelenting judge handling the reins of all that was created, but working only with the gentlest attributes, namely, as Father and only through love holding everything together, embracing everything and leading it back through mildness to My fatherly heart.
Only a spirit, a descendant of Mine, understands Me and My creation, and this spirit every one of you carries in his heart. However, not knowing how to cultivate it, in most cases he brings it with him to the spirit realm undeveloped, as he received it from Me at birth. In man, who, composed of all the elements of this earth, represents the last member or "compendium" of the whole earth globe, this diversity of all that which is spiritual must be even more pronounced. For he, in the manner of communication of his thoughts and ideas superior to everything else, is also capable of letting his own spirituality shine through and of making use of it. Hence also the inclination for one or the other occupation, partly through the impression from early youth, partly through the elements prevailing as inherited spiritual possession during the act of procreation. These naturally exert their influence and were bound to show their influence also in life, which happened mostly where the greatest obstacles to their gratification arose." (Secrets of life, chap. 26 - Human life) The strugle for life. The substance of the soul and his gradual liberation from matter (chp. NR)5/8/2016 "[6] Now the captain could no more keep silent. He quickly went to Raphael and said: “Listen, wise and mighty citizen of a better world than this Earth. Generally I am very satisfied with the often beautiful arrangement of this Earth of ours, how it is formed and how the plants are ordered, but what concerns the animals, in the kind of circumstances in which they live and are active among each other, absolutely not.
[7] It was taken care of that all the plants and vegetation would take their food from the soil, from the water, from the air and from the warmth of the sunlight, and so they would excellently flourish. Only the animals, and for a great part also us human beings must catch animals, kill them and eat their flesh in order to feed our body. [8] Look, this makes the heart and the mind of man unmistakably wild. This is what I noticed in Rome all too often with the often terrible bullfights and other fights of wild, devouring animals in especially built and arranged cages. For in Rome and also in a lot of other places such fights with animals are kept to ever stir up the eagerness for war and the brave fighting spirit and keep it alive, especially for the soldiers and the citizens. [9] And from who did men learn that wild waging of war where no trace of the love for God and of the love for fellowman can be found? [10] Here, look down there in the water. What did those poor fishes actually do wrong that they often are caught out of the water and eaten up by thousands by the greedy water birds? Can all those numberless different sorts of animals in the air, on the Earth and in the water not feed themselves just like the tame house animals with the also numberless different sorts of plants? Must all kinds of flesh eating animals of prey search their food in the flocks of the meek animals and thus provoke men to a wild battle by their cruelty which is implanted by the might of God?" Intelligence of the soul. Truth about so-called "migration of the soul"
"[1] But that a human soul, and correspondingly even his at first very clumsy body, are put together in this way, everyone who thinks and feels more deeply will more or less be able to assume from the many indications that he can discover with himself. [2] Take the great many various notions and ideas that a soul can develop out of himself with only little training, and which he also can imagine – correctly or less correctly, that is for the moment the same – if he would not be as if put together, like a unity that contains everything in itself, he would as less as an ox or a donkey be capable to design the construction of a royal castle and build it according to that design. [3] If you consider all the various animals in the air, like the insects and birds, as well as the animals on the solid surface of the Earth, and those in the water, then you will discover with most of them the capability to build something. Just look at the bees and other little animals in the air that more or less look like it. Look at the very various nests of the birds, and the ants and still other insects in the soil, the spiders and the caterpillars. Furthermore all sorts of mouse, the beaver that builds a precise hut, the foxes, wolves, bears and still a great number of other animals, and see how they build and arrange their habitations very efficiently for themselves. Look furthermore at the various animals in the sea, especially the crustaceans. Then you will see with them such great capability to build that it often even very much amazes the best architect. [4] Now, every animal, from the smallest to the biggest, has of course its own very simple building capability that is typical to the intelligence of its animal soul. It moreover knows the building material and always uses it in its own way and manner. But in the human soul a very large number of all those animal-intelligent building capabilities are present, and from them, he can, as it were through a silent awareness, put also a very large number of concepts and ideas together, and so he can create completely new and great forms. Secrets of life, chap. 25
Trieste, 13 September 1875 "Already quite some time ago you wanted to explain the meaning of this word as well as the actual concept of growth to your friends and sisters. However, you soon lacked the clarity of thought to treat this topic for the full benefit of your brothers. Well, I will now explain this word to you as well as the growing process in its spiritual and material aspect, adding with this explanation another building block towards the great edifice of spiritual cognition. Thereby you may again realize how much is still unknown to you and how much, if one would contemplate only a few occurrences in nature, would still have to be elucidated concerning things which fail to claim your attention in the least because you see them every day. We begin again with the meaning of the word as such, asking quite simply: “What does it actually mean, to grow?” To grow means to increase, and to increase means: to add something to the existing, whereby in the material world the object gains in size (and weight) and is enhanced in its spiritual quality. Well, you see everything around you in the process of growing. While you are young, you can observe even the growing bigger or heavier of your body from your clothes. However, you still fail to understand the actual “growing” around and within you. You take no interest in it because you see this process in nature going on around you every day. |
