CHAPTER 35 "I have spoken these things to you, that you may have peace in Me. In the world you will have affliction; but trust, I have conquered the world! "(John.16:33)
[1] "I have spoken these things to you, that you may have peace in Me. In the world you will have affliction; but trust, I have conquered the world! " [2] This text belongs again to those who are very transparent, and anyone can catch the spiritual sense already in the letter at first grasp. So I want to show you the meaning of this text in a few words, and you will recognize in these few words the perfectly correct spiritual meaning of this text; so listen! [3] All that I am speaking to you right now is also of this kind, that in every situation of your life it must give you the true, inner peace of heart in the love for Me, if only you observe the said thing only somewhat actively. [4] The world also wants to oppress you from all sides; but it cannot, because I have overcome it. But if you have Me in you through your love, then you also have the Eternal Overcomer of the world in you. But the world has experienced My power; therefore it must not and cannot bend a hair of those who truly holds My peace in their hearts. [5] But as soon as someone wants to step out of this peace, and even throws the glove to the world unto battle, then he only has himself to blame if he is captured and maltreated by the world. But whoever truly remains in My peace, is saved for eternity, and no worldly whisper will do him any harm.

[2] I said: “As it was until now, so also in the future this will be left to the workers in My fields and in My vineyards. What really will matter then is how they will handle My will that they know very well, be it in the right or the wrong way. Therefore, take care that after My bodily separation from you there will be no quarrels and disagreements, for those will really become the mother of the antichrist on this Earth. I am saying this now to you beforehand, so
that you will prevent it. Indeed you will prevent it, but if your disciples will do that also is still another question, for also their free will, as well as yours has to be respected. [3] My teaching gives you the highest freedom, and therefore it cannot be proclaimed with the sword and with the chains of the darkest slavery, because man must also be acquainted with and accept that which he can and will procure with the highest freedom of live. As I have given you all this for free, so you also should give it for free to those who want to have it from you. [4] Also, I have forced nobody of you, but I called you in full freedom: ‘He who wants, let him come, listen, see and follow Me.’ And you have done that out of your free will. Therefore, act from now on like this in My name, then you will walk the right way. [5] But he who will make a ‘must’ of it, will not be My disciple, and on his way he will encounter rocks, reefs and thorns. Take all of you a good and true example on Me. What would it cost Me to force in one moment all the people on the whole Earth by My omnipotence to completely accept My teaching and My will, as it is also possible for Me in one moment to map out with ‘must’ the way that all the other created beings strictly have to go according to My will? But will this give them an independent moral freedom of life that will make them happy? I say to you: no, not a single one. 4. "For in no matter can a man be more easily talked around than precisely in the one he does not understand himself.
5. "For in this case he either accepts the verdict out of ignorance or because he believes in the authority of the speaker, and will then never arrive at an opinion of his own. 6. "And this means nothing else but to shackle the independence of his own spirit and to become a mechanical spirit of another or set aside his own life in favor of an alien, spurious life. 7. "I am telling you this from my own experience so that you may not let yourself be talked around by me, but accept only that which makes sense to you; thus you shall not accept a single syllable which you merely had to believe without having grasped it beforehand firmly in your mind. 8. "There is no worse state for a free man than that of a blind faith; for such a faith engenders the true death of the spirit. « 4. Say I, 'You I have prepared through word and teaching. When I came to you a few days ago you took Me for a very wise and highly accomplished physician and when you saw Me accomplish unusual deeds, you began to take Me for a prophet through whom God's Spirit acted. But being a man of much experience, you felt prompted to find out how I had achieved such perfection. Thereupon I revealed to you what man is and what is in him, besides what can become of man when he has fully recognised himself, achieving fullest life-liberty of his spirit therewith!
5. But then I also showed you how God Himself is a Man and whence you too, as well as all beings like you, also are men. I then also showed you confidentially that I Myself am that Man and that every man is called to become and be forever what I Myself am. You were astonished, knowing from then on Who I am. 6. And behold, this was a purposeful preparation of your soul and spirit, so that you could now watch Me create an earth, or men from stones, without being harmed. Because you accepted freely, and that in a fully scientific way, that God can be a Man and man can be a god! And so it can no longer trouble your soul and spirit to fully comprehend that I alone am the One true God and Creator of all things from eternity. 7. But it is quite different with other people, who on the whole are not accessible to the scientific approach. These only have faith and otherwise little understanding. 8. The faith of the soul however is nearer to life than the most perfect intellect. If the faith is a coerced one however, then it also becomes a shackle to the soul. If however the soul is shackled, then there can be no talk of the development of the spirit within it. Secrets of life, chap 33. THE DARK SIDE OF NATURE RELATIVE TO HUMAN LIFE
21 February 1877 "In My last (preceding) word I defended Myself against the criticism raised by some, or actually by many people, concerning the contradictions they believe to find My visible nature, when they compare them with My everywhere proclaimed words of love, of meekness and of the promised joys. As far as was possible, I have elucidated this dark side for you, explaining also that "it could be otherwise, but it must still be as it really is." Now I still have to carry out an important scrutiny of your own life, where many a person says: "Just look at human life, from birth to grave it is nothing but conflict, suffering, disappointment, with very little love, joy and other promised things, unless man knows how to procure them himself. "What else is life on this earth but a vale of tears where one - not knowing any better - is referred to religious dogmas and other revelations always speaking of another life after death, of reward and recompense for sustained suffering while letting man battle here on earth with every misfortune. Why should I bother about another world beyond, of which I actually know nothing certain and in which I am expected to believe blindly! "Since I see this world surrounding me as so miserable, who guarantees that the future world is not just as contradictory as the real one here where, instead of joys, only physical or spiritual sufferings follow each other and even what is attained with effort does not afford the enjoyment some expected!" Why sometimes the answer to prayers is delayed
"[10] Believe Me: our Jehovah is since eternity the only true, good, living God and has never failed to answer the supplications of those who without doubting believed in Him, who have kept His commandments and thus also who loved Him above all and their fellowman as themselves. Even if He sometimes delayed to completely answer their supplications in order to purify their souls all the more, but He still has never failed to answer them completely and has always fulfilled them, often at a moment when those who prayed for it thought about it in the least. [11] You yourselves – I know this very well – have often prayed in your need to God that He would take away your misery, but because you previously lived in great wealth as men who were in high esteem, but have thereby manifested physical and spiritual laziness in every respect, He let you go through a serious and hard school of life for a few years, so that you would not only experience the attractiveness of the earthly life but also that you yourselves would experience its bitterness, so that from then on you would search in yourselves and come to know the real value of life and its purpose. "Your brother M. asked you for an answer on behalf of one of his friends who, only endowed with the light of reason, tries to explain the entire creation, including its “Why” and “What”. Having repudiated the life of emotions or of the heart, or the inner spiritual life, he is thus unable to arrive at some satisfactory answer to all his searching and musing.
Well. I will try to offer the suitable foods and palliatives to a soul that, though hungry and thirsty, does not know as yet which food or which drink could really appease its hunger and thirst. Whether this soul will accept them and how it will spiritually digest them, we shall see in the following. Your brother M. perceives quite well that human suppositions are inadequate to bring true solace and peace to his friend. For it could only be a system pieced together from rational arguments and opposed to another one where after all, seen from My viewpoint, one has as little solidity and firmness as the other. Therefore, he turned to Me with the most loving request that also this friend might be given the tranquility and peace he himself enjoys in such rich measure through reading and complying with My (new) Word. So I will try, like the mother who offers her breast to her newly born child. to offer also to him, an erring but not evil soul, the first spiritual food. Newly born children also often refuse the mother’s breast. Now we will see how your friend will like this new food which, moreover, comes from hands quite unknown to him. 4 October 1870
"Since you have read yesterday these three words in a spiritistic book (Adelma, “Book of Contemplation”, Vienna 1857), which you cannot dismiss from your memory, upon your request I too will give you some words on these three important qualities that are very necessary, particularly for you, and also for your whole company. For also they are lacking in faith, even more in trust, and there is hardly any confidence. So listen: Faith, this beautiful and noble word which expresses that man, or his spiritual being, surrenders totally to that which he has grasped as truth and, basing his future actions on it, derives his peace from, and founds his future happiness on, the same, how few have it and even if it occurs with individual people, how minute its dose is! Faith, as I have only recently said in My words to your doubting friend, is the fundamental basis of everything. In the absence of faith, there is nothing that has to be spiritually substantiated. Faith, together with the infant’s first comprehension, is the first bond binding it to its mother and to the world. What the mother trustingly lays into the heart of the child, that is, of its awakening spirit, it accepts faithfully. It is convinced that its mother tells it only the truth; it has arrived at this firm conviction, achieved through spiritual and physical bonds, as the only one binding it to the mother and the surrounding world. The faith in these first imprinted truths is often so lasting and, if pure and sincere, so strong that even in his last days on earth, man does not forget the effect the first impressed precepts of his early years, coming from his mother, which he accepted, childlike, in their entirety, preserving them as the first spiritual treasures in his heart. Earth and Moon, chap. 64 & 65
"Human beings have many complaints. Some complain about bad times and how everything thereby becomes more expensive and more difficult. Others are furious about the government, believing that everything is its fault. Another again blames everything on the clergy, and some blame it on all the luxury. In brief, everyone is blaming the cause of all the world’s current woes on someone or something else. But none of these complainers ask themselves whether they have somehow contributed to this change for the worse in circumstances, while perhaps they themselves have made such contribution and perhaps still do. I hear a father complain about the luxuries of these times just after he has bought his daughters expensive dresses. What would you say to such a person when he accuses luxury? Nothing other than that if luxury displeases you, why do you then let your pride urge you to buy such expensive dresses for your daughters? Instead of complaining, begin to dress your children simply. Perhaps you will find other people who will follow your example, and they in turn will find others. Then, little by little, these luxury items will disappear, because there will be no one to buy them. Can he who does not improve himself demand that other people improve? "4. You people then are all the same! When you see no signs, you don't believe. Yet you are blessed that you believe, although on account of the signs; he who nevertheless does not believe in spite of the signs which I work has sunk into death.
5. But in future only those men shall attain bliss who believe just on account of the truth of My Word, without signs, living in accordance with it! These shall then discover the only living sign within themselves, called life eternal, and this no one shall be able to take from them." (GGJ vol. 1, chp. 72) "[2] I also did not say that the one who proclaims My teaching to other people should not mention My deeds at all, but not too much sensation should be made of it. And then by preference only those deeds should be mentioned that I have done to people out of pure love, as a Doctor and Helper, to one person or to several people who were in the greatest need. [3] And no sensation should be made of those deeds - although I also performed them out of love for the people - that were done to convince them more quickly of the truth of My teaching, which is only necessary especially in this time, but not in future times in which My word will already perform signs by itself. For this would soon increase people's desire and make them long more for all kinds of wonders than for the influence of the true life which My teaching has in man. |
